Larchmont Meditation Protocol

Larchmont packs a harbor, a shoreline park, and a walkable core into 1.1 square miles. Grand Central is about 40 minutes away on the New Haven Line.

Meditation Briefing — Larchmont

Commute Window: ~40 min each direction · 80 min/day available

Local Assets: Larchmont Manor Park (13 acres, 5,000+ ft shoreline), Larchmont Harbor, Chatsworth Avenue

Harbor Advantage: Blue space still helps here. Larchmont's active harbor softens the effect versus a silent shoreline. Editorial estimate: about a 12% dip, versus a fuller effect on silent shorelines.

Protocol Priority: Commute practice (weekdays) + harbor walking sessions (weekends)

The Harbor, Not the Marsh

Rye has a protected salt marsh. Larchmont has a working harbor.

Larchmont Harbor holds the Larchmont Yacht Club, sailboats, and real boat traffic. Ambient life replaces solitude here.

Manor Park absorbs both. Thirteen acres, striated rocks, more than 5,000 feet of shoreline. Room enough for a real walking-meditation loop.

It's privately owned by the Larchmont Manor Park Society, open dawn to dusk. Gazebos overlook the Sound. No admission required.

The trade-off is real. A marsh gives silence. A harbor gives motion, and motion works differently on attention.

That distinction shows up in vagal tone data, not just subjective mood.

The 40-Minute Window

Larchmont is barely 1.1 square miles, one of the smallest villages on the Sound Shore. Much of the village center sits within walking distance of the station. The walk itself becomes a warm-up, not dead time.

The ride to Grand Central runs around 40 minutes on the New Haven Line. That's real time, but it's tighter than Rye's window on the same line.

Forty minutes doesn't stretch to a 3-segment protocol with room to spare. It fits two segments cleanly.

A focused-attention block inbound. A body-scan decompression block outbound. That's the whole architecture, and it doesn't need more.

The protocol below keeps cortisol low at both ends of the ride.
